Lightning struck the central district of Brazil's capital, injuring more than 70 people during the storm. This was reported by the local portal O Hoje.
"Lightning struck, and everyone fell. At first we didn't understand anything. Then people started getting up and helping each other. Many ran. Firefighters and ambulance services were already on site, but there were too many people," commercial representative Alfredo Santana said.
According to preliminary data, at least 72 people received medical care, about 30 of them were sent to state hospitals in the Federal District, eight were in serious condition.
It is specified that the fire service and the Department of Health of the Federal District organized an emergency response on the spot and continue to provide support to the victims.
Earlier, on January 4, the government of the Northwestern Province of the Republic of South Africa (RSA) reported that about 150 people were injured by lightning during the annual Di Trupa festival. It was clarified that two people had died.
