Participants of the rally in the capital of Gagauzia, Comrat, accuse the Moldovan authorities of attacking the special status of the region's autonomy. This was announced on January 25 by one of the organizers of the event, public figure Mikhail Vlakh.

"There is a orgy going on — an attack on the law on the special status of autonomy, an attack on Gagauzia, the cancellation of the elections of the National Assembly — this situation has led to the fact that we need to openly talk about problems," he told RIA Novosti.

Vlah noted that there is a gap in relations between Chisinau and Comrat. At the same time, Comrat is not to blame for the current situation, he stated.

The public figure said that the country's authorities want to divide the people so that people do not pay attention to really urgent problems. He also noted that many residents are afraid to express their opinions at rallies.

Earlier, on January 22, deputies of the Gagauz Autonomy, by a majority vote, canceled the elections to the local parliament scheduled for March 22. Information about the new voting date or possible alternative solutions has also not yet been made public.

On November 14, Dmitry Konstantinov, Chairman of the People's Assembly of Gagauzia, announced his resignation. The Presidium of the Parliament also scheduled a meeting for November 27 to approve the date of the election of the new composition of the People's Assembly of Gagauzia. Konstantinov himself explained that he plans to devote time to his health during the 90 days of unused vacation.
