Tennis player Kafelnikov commented on Medvedev's defeat at the Australian Open
Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev had no chance against American Lerner Tien in the fourth round of the Australian Open championship. This opinion was shared on January 25 by the former first racket of the world, two-time winner of Grand Slam tournaments in singles Evgeny Kafelnikov.
"Medvedev was outplayed by his opponent. <...> The younger generation has already stepped on his heels.<...> Everything happens for the first time, you don't need to focus on it. It is worth paying attention to why this defeat happened," Kafelnikov said in an interview with the newspaper Sport—Express.
According to him, Medvedev lost because his opponent turned out to be stronger in all respects.
Earlier that day, Medvedev was defeated in a match against Tien and withdrew from the tournament. It was noted that for Medvedev, the defeat was notable for the fact that for the first time in his career at Grand Slam tournaments he lost a set with a "dry" score.
