In Russia, pregnant women will be able to take NIPT for free under compulsory medical insurance

In Russia, pregnant women will be able to take a noninvasive prenatal test (NIPT) for free under compulsory medical insurance. This became known on January 25 from the approved program of state guarantees of free medicine for 2026.

According to TASS, this service will be provided for those expectant mothers who have an average and high risk of having a child with chromosomal abnormalities that NIPT can detect. This does not exclude those services for the diagnosis of developmental disorders of the child that were available before.

Prior to that, the delivery of NIPT was exclusively paid.
