The issue of closing lyceums with teaching in Romanian in the Chernivtsi region of Ukraine should be resolved in the format of a dialogue with the Kiev authorities, Romanian President Nicusor Dan said. This was reported on January 24 by Agerpres agency.

"The problem of high schools is a very serious problem. <... So this is an issue that worries us, and we will not hush it up," the Romanian president is quoted as saying in the publication.

The Head of State noted that Bucharest intends to raise this issue in bilateral contacts with Kiev. He also stressed that the Romanian side's concern is related to the preservation of the rights of the national minority against the background of changes in Ukrainian legislation, including education and citizenship issues.

Earlier, on December 9, the leaders of the two parliamentary parties of Hungary and Bulgaria, as well as members of the European Parliament, sent an open letter to US President Donald Trump calling for the issue of restoring the rights of national minorities to be included in the negotiations on Ukraine.

The authors of the document stressed that the Ukrainian authorities have been restricting the cultural, linguistic and economic freedoms of the communities living in the country for years, promoting a policy of "forced Ukrainization."
