To stop being a victim, a person needs to take responsibility for their desires, actions, and consequences. On January 24, she told the newspaper.Ru" psychologist Kira Bakunina.

"Remaining a victim, you will always hope and wait for the "wizard in the blue helicopter" instead of becoming one yourself," the expert emphasized.

She added that the key sign of a victim is an external locus of control, when a person relies on others and blames others for their problems. Bakunina noted that the way out of this role is possible through reliance on an internal locus of control and the development of one's own resources — friendship, work, finances and skills.

"That is, instead of "let's do it for you," you ask, "how can I help you?" and only then decide if he can help as he is asked, and what he can offer without prejudice to himself," the psychologist advised.

Earlier, on December 23, 2025, it was reported that manipulation is a way to control human behavior through artificially imposed needs. According to psychotherapist Sergey Martynov, manipulation has a particularly strong effect on people with unstable self-esteem, personal immaturity and self-doubt, and they can be recognized by pressure, an emphasis on feelings of guilt and fear, as well as promises of benefits in the future while ignoring real problems.
