Defrosting and washing the refrigerator are key measures to prevent the proliferation of dangerous microorganisms and to maintain the appliance's operability. This was announced on January 24 by Maria Zolotareva, Candidate of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Biotechnology and Industrial Pharmacy at RTU MIREA "Газете.Ru ".
"When the temperature regime of food is violated, ideal conditions are created for the reproduction of psychrotrophic microorganisms," the expert noted.
It was clarified that for safe defrosting, it is recommended to transfer products from the freezer to an area with a temperature no higher than -15 degrees, and store chilled products at +4 degrees. Humidity and contaminated surfaces are eliminated by gentle treatment with 6-9% acetic acid or 3% hydrogen peroxide, followed by rinsing and drying.
After turning on the refrigerator, it is important to wait for the temperature to stabilize: the freezer should not exceed -18 degrees, the main chamber should not exceed +4 degrees, and meat and dairy products heated above +8 degrees for more than 2 hours should not be used without heat treatment, Zolotareva concluded.
