A criminal case was opened into the fact of power outage in several settlements of the Murmansk region. This was announced on January 23 by the SU IC of Russia for the region.

"A criminal case has been initiated on the grounds of a crime under Part 1 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (negligence)," the publication on the Telegram channel clarifies.

It is noted that, according to preliminary data, due to untimely measures by officials of the grid organization to maintain lines and respond to accidents, a critical voltage drop and a massive shutdown of energy consumers occurred in Murmansk and the settlements of Severomorsk, including critical infrastructure facilities.

The department announced the creation of an investigative team, the work of investigators and criminologists at the scene. An assessment will be given of the timeliness and effectiveness of measures to maintain electrical networks and eliminate the consequences of accidents, the report said.

Earlier, on January 23, the governor of the Murmansk region, Andrey Chibis, announced that a high-alert regime was being introduced against the background of emergency situations due to adverse weather conditions. In connection with the current situation, Chibis held a meeting of the operational headquarters.
