Germany cannot accept the governance structure of the "Peace Council" created by US President Donald Trump. This was announced on January 23 by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

"In the form in which the Peace Council has now been established, we cannot accept its governance structure in Germany, even for constitutional reasons," Merz said at a joint press conference with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

At the same time, Germany expressed its readiness for other forms of cooperation with the United States, and intends to help not only in the issue of the Gaza Strip and the Middle East.

Trump said at a press conference aboard Air Force One on January 22 that Italy needed the approval of the country's legislature to be included in the "Peace Council."

On January 20, Egypt accepted Trump's invitation to join the Peace Council organization. Azerbaijan, Argentina, Bahrain, Belarus, Hungary, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Israel, and Morocco have previously agreed to the initiative to join the council. After that, on January 21, the initiative of the US president was officially supported in a statement by the foreign ministers of eight Middle Eastern countries — Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Egypt.
