The Constitutional Court of Bulgaria has approved the resignation of President Rumen Radev. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on January 23.

The retired Bulgarian leader will be temporarily replaced by Vice President Iliana Yotova. The authors of the article specify that Yotova will appoint an interim government and determine the date of the parliamentary elections.

It is indicated that Radev resigned this week, fueling rumors that he intends to create his own political party to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections. The president was supposed to serve as head of state until 2027.

Radev announced on January 19 that he would resign. It was specified that the powers of the president would be terminated after the establishment of the specified circumstances by the Constitutional Court of the country. He also expressed confidence that Yotova would become a worthy head of state.

Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov announced the resignation of the government on December 11, 2025. According to Zhelyazkov, the citizens of the republic supported this decision.
