Timofey Voronin, project manager of the Intelligent Analytics company, told on Friday, January 23, which are the most popular pretexts scammers use to obtain codes.

"It is the confirmation of an appointment with government agencies that is used as the most popular reason to send a code to fraudsters. The most important thing is that the code that will be sent in a messenger or SMS may not be from Gosuslug, but from a sender similar to the organization that the potential victim allegedly communicates with, but the fact of his message will be used by scammers to blackmail," he said in an interview with RT.

Voronin added that some time after the code was sent to an email, a fake email about hacking an account on Gosuslugi may be sent, in which they will be strongly advised to contact tech support at the specified numbers belonging to the scammers.

Fraudsters also use requests to confirm delivery from marketplaces or online stores, retail chains to deceive Russians, and they may ask for an SMS code to confirm the creation of an application for maintenance of communal or residential equipment.

He stressed that representatives of retail chains, management companies and government organizations never request personal information or confirmation codes by phone or in correspondence.

Earlier that day, the Department for the organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia reported that one of the most common methods of fraudsters to obtain codes from SMS is allegedly an entry into a state organization, RT reports.

The department also reminded of the need to be vigilant and not give the confirmation code to anyone, according to the website. kp.ru .

Earlier, the Interior Ministry reported on January 19 that fraudsters began sending emails to users, disguising themselves as the Gosuslugi service, in order to force the victim to contact the attackers on their own. The calculation is based on the fact that the user himself will call this number and get in touch with the scammers.
