- The expert assessed the risk of a sharp withdrawal of Chinese car brands from the Russian Federation
A massive withdrawal of Chinese car brands from Russia, as in the case of Western ones, looks unlikely. For companies like Chery, Geely or Great Wall, the Russian market is not a temporary experiment, it has a steady demand and a clear logic of scaling. This opinion was shared by Andrey Kogan, founder of the All-China company, Chairman of the Committee for Work with China of the Association of Exporters and Importers.
"Many of them have already invested not only in car supplies, but also in local infrastructure.: spare parts depots, service programs, staff training. These investments are usually not made "for one season," especially in conditions when alternative markets are overheated by competition or are more tightly regulated," Rossiyskaya Gazeta quoted Kogan as saying on January 23.
However, according to Kogan, dealers and importers still face various risks when they assume long-term obligations to customers (warranty repairs, maintenance, maintenance of spare parts), and the manufacturer may formally change its strategy, reduce the line or redistribute supplies. He considers the high speed of updating the model ranges of Chinese brands to be another vulnerable point. The question is not about the departure of Chinese car brands, but about which ones will remain for a long time and on what terms, the specialist pointed out.
On January 21, it became known that in Russia, 72.2% of the country's passenger car fleet is occupied by cars over the age of 10. According to the head of the ROAD, over the past 10 years, the Russian fleet has almost doubled in age.
As Sergey Tselikov, director of Autostat, told on January 14, sales of Chinese-built cars in Russia decreased by 38% in 2025, a total of 489 thousand such cars were sold. At the same time, sales of Russian-built cars in 2025 increased by 8%, while the overall car market declined. So, during the year, 701.7 thousand new cars were sold in the Russian Federation, rolled off Russian assembly lines. Their market share increased to 52.9%.
