Europe's creation of a unified army poses no threat to Russia. Political scientist Nikolai Topornin expressed this opinion on Thursday, January 22.

"Will it threaten Russia? Of course it won't. Because any military alliance in Europe is purely defensive in nature. This can be seen from the armed contingents that exist. They don't have any serious offensive formations," he said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .

The political scientist noted that Europe has long been on the path of demilitarization, and European countries have significantly weakened their military contingents.

"Let there be 100,000, as they plan in the future. This is ridiculous. Who is 100 thousand coming in a modern war? It's just not serious," he concluded.

Earlier, on January 21, Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares said that Europe should create a "coalition of the willing" to ensure the security of the EU countries, RT reports.

According to Albares, the coalition may include both EU member states and those states that seek closer cooperation with Europe. 360.ru .

Earlier, on January 20, political analyst Ivan Mezyuho, in an interview with Izvestia, said that Europe does not have any strategic autonomy and economic sovereignty, which French President Emmanuel Macron is talking about. He stressed that in the current conditions, the main task is to "save European interests" in the context of the idea of "the right of the strong."
