The political scientist estimated the likelihood of a US military invasion of Canada
The scenario of a US military invasion of Canada is unlikely. This opinion was expressed by American political scientist Malek Dudakov on Thursday, January 22.
The Globe and Mail newspaper reported on January 20 that the Canadian Armed Forces (AF) have developed a model for a hypothetical US invasion of the country and possible retaliatory actions. 360.ru .
According to the newspaper, the Canadian command recognizes the lack of soldiers and weapons to repel the attack, therefore, if necessary, it will resort to sabotage and ambushes using drones.
According to the political scientist, Canadian officials also point out that a military escalation by the United States is unlikely, and with their invasion scenarios they are simply trying to send negative signals to Washington.
Dudakov pointed out that it was not for nothing that Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney visited China and concluded a big trade deal with China, in particular, sharply lowered tariffs on Chinese goods and Chinese electric vehicles.
"He did all this in defiance of Trump, who is just imposing tariffs on Chinese products. And during a press conference in China, Carney said that China is currently more of a partner of Canada than the United States. Therefore, the current actions fit into the general outline of the deepening split between the United States and Canada against the background of trade wars and all other contradictions," the American expert said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
He believes that this does not mean that there will be some kind of open armed conflict between the countries, but Canada will try to make its economy more independent of exports and imports from the United States.
Dudakov also admitted that Canada may renegotiate military contracts and not buy F-35 fighter jets from the Americans and so on.
On January 18, American political scientist Earl Rasmussen announced possible plans by US President Donald Trump to annex Greenland, which could extend to Canada in the future. He noted that this would put the country in an extremely unfavorable position, surrounding the United States from all sides and threatening to lose strategically important regions.
