Mashenka bakery near Moscow, which gained fame during a direct line with Russian President Vladimir Putin, will hand over the pastries to the special envoy of the US President Stephen Witkoff. The owner of the bakery, Denis Maksimov, told Izvestia on January 22 that he felt a high responsibility when he received an order to prepare a gift for an American representative.
Among the gifts to the American special envoy are traditional apple pie, Red Velvet cookies and chocolate brownies.
"When the order [for Witkoff] arrived, we felt a strong responsibility, because the level of the person it was intended for was quite high. <...> In principle, everything turned out delicious and beautiful at once, but we wanted to make it perfect. <...> Therefore, I hope we succeeded, and I hope, that our present will arrive," the entrepreneur said.
Maximov also noted that after his appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin during the December direct line, the popularity of the institution increased significantly.
"After the direct line, a lot of people want to talk. Therefore, I am always open to this. <...> There is an influx of customers, there is an increase in the average check," the businessman added.
At the same time, he admitted that it was impossible to compare the current flow of customers with the "flurry" that the bakery "took out" in the first week after the broadcast, but the business was able to cope with the increased attention.
The day before, Witkoff announced that he plans to go to a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday, January 22. This was later confirmed by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. According to the press secretary of the Russian leader, the meeting will take place after 19:00 Moscow time or 20:00 Moscow time.
