- The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine threatened ballet dancers with dismissal for "Swan Lake"
The leading soloists of the ballet of the National Opera of Ukraine, Natalia Matsak and Sergei Krivokon, are facing dismissal for participating in a European tour with a production of "Swan Lake" by composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky. This was reported on January 22 by the Ukrainian newspaper Strana.ua" in his Telegram channel.
It is noted that the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine accused the artists of violating the theater's principled position on removing works by Russian composers from the repertoire.
"It became known from social networks about the participation of the leading soloists of the ballet of the National Opera of Ukraine Natalia Matsak and Sergey Krivokon in the performances of "Swan Lake" with the United European Ballet (Colossart Production). During the official vacation, these artists went abroad. They took part in performances and distributed a cultural product [of Russia]," the publication quotes the ministry's statement.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Culture said that the management of the National Opera and the Ministry are preparing "solutions within the framework of labor relations." The publication notes that the profiles of both artists were deleted from the official website of the theater, which probably indicates the impending dismissal.
The publication "Country.ua" reported on December 30 last year that Pyotr Tchaikovsky's name was removed from the name of the National Music Academy of Ukraine (NMAU). It was clarified that such a conclusion was made by the expert commission of the Institute of National Remembrance (INP) of Ukraine. Later, the academy will be given a new name. According to the online publication, the order for renaming came from the Ministry of Culture.
Vladimir Medinsky, Assistant to the President of Russia and chairman of the Russian Military Historical Society, said on November 19 that Ukraine was waging an all-out information war in the field of history, banning the names of famous personalities.
