The Moscow Zoo was visited by more than 3.2 million people in 2025, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said in his blog on the MAX messenger. More than 640 thousand people watched the animals online on the website zoo.mos.ru .
During the year, about 600 cubs of various animal species were born in the zoo, the mayor of the capital wrote on his personal blog. Among them are representatives of such rare species as the elastic turtle, the Amur tiger and the Diana monkey, listed in the International Red Book.
In 2025, the zoo expanded its infrastructure. In April, an aviary with an area of more than 300 square meters was opened in the new territory. m is for giant otters. After the reconstruction, the Solar Bears Pavilion was put into operation. A Bird Recovery and Adaptation Center has started operating in Sokolniki Park, where specialists treat injured birds of prey and Red Book birds.
In addition, a specialized Wildlife Rescue department has been established at the zoo. In six months, its staff processed over 1.5 thousand applications and delivered more than 700 rescued animals to the branches.
More than 310 animals have moved to Moscow from zoos in Russia and around the world, as well as from private collections, Sobyanin said. For the first time in the history of the institution, New Guinean Philanders and Shuttlecocks settled here.
The mayor stressed that the development of the Moscow Zoo will continue in 2026.
