European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde walked away from a private dinner at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos after U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick sharply criticized Europe. This was announced on January 21 by the Financial Times newspaper.

"Lagarde was among the guests who left (the dinner. — Ed.) during the performance (of the Soldier. — Ed.)," the newspaper reports.

According to the Financial Times, Lagarde's departure took place against the background of a tense atmosphere caused by the speech of the American minister.

An official at the WEF made a statement calling on countries to pay attention to coal as the main source of energy, rather than renewable sources. In his speech, he also made disparaging remarks about Europe.

Earlier, on January 20, the Financial Times newspaper reported that most of the European Union (EU) countries rejected the American leader's offer to join the "Peace Council." As reported by kp.ru There is concern in Europe that this "Peace Council" may in the future overshadow the UN as the main platform for resolving global conflicts.
