Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares has launched an initiative to create a European army and form a "coalition of the willing" to ensure the security of EU countries. He stated this on January 21 in an interview with Der Spiegel magazine.

"There are intermediate steps on this path that we can implement quite simply: first of all, we need to combine our defense enterprises. Secondly, we should create a "coalition of the willing." If we are ready to take such measures to support Ukraine, then we must be ready to defend the European Union as well," Albares told Der Spiegel.

According to Albares, the coalition can include both EU member states and those states that seek closer cooperation with Europe.

Earlier, on January 20, political analyst Ivan Mezyuho, in an interview with Izvestia, said that Europe does not have any strategic autonomy and economic sovereignty, which French President Emmanuel Macron is talking about. He stressed that in the current conditions, the main task is to "save European interests" in the context of the idea of "the right of the strong."

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
