- MP Ivanov called for banning "House of the Dragon" and "Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" in Russia
On January 20, Mikhail Ivanov, Deputy Chairman of the World Russian People's Council (WRNS), head of the Orthodox Russia movement and deputy of the Bryansk Regional Duma, took the initiative to ban the broadcast of TV series based on the works of George R.R. Martin, such as "House of the Dragon" and "Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" in the Russian Federation.
In conversation with News.ru He noted that these shows purposefully promote an alien and destructive ideology.
"The seven false gods that the characters pray to there are a direct parody of faith, the introduction into the consciousness, especially of young people, of the idea that any polytheism and idolatry have a right to exist," Ivanov said.
The MP added that fans of the franchise mistakenly perceive the dragon as a symbol of power and greatness, whereas in the Christian tradition this creature represents evil, which is defeated by the light force. So, he called on relevant government agencies to ban the screening of both projects in Russia.
In July last year, State Duma deputies at a plenary session adopted amendments to the law banning films discrediting Russian values in the second and third readings. It will enter into force on March 1, 2026. The document will empower the Russian Ministry of Culture to amend the rental certificate to update information about the ban on the distribution of films among children.
