The Peace Council, announced by Washington as a coordinating body for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, will be authorized to discuss issues in other regions. This was reported on January 20 by Axios, citing sources.

"The Peace Council will not be limited to Gaza. This is a peace council for the whole world," said a senior American official.

The article clarifies that some alarmed allies regard this as an attempt to create something similar to the UN Security Council, but where American leader Donald Trump will have the sole right of veto. The initiative displeased European allies: France refused to join, many EU countries were skeptical about the project, and Morocco, Qatar and Indonesia agreed.

The expansion of the Council's mandate was announced amid tensions over Greenland and threats of tariffs, which distracted EU countries from discussing a peace plan for Ukraine.

The launch event of the Peace Council is scheduled for January 22 in Davos, and Trump intends to personally lead the organization.

The Axios portal reported on January 14 that the United States had sent invitations to a number of states to join the "Peace Council" on the Gaza Strip. It was specified that the first meeting within the council could take place as early as next week.

In turn, on January 20, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced that the Russian side had received from the United States a draft charter of the "Peace Council" on the management of the Gaza Strip. According to him, at the moment, the administration of US President Donald Trump is aware of the need not only to unite a large number of states, but also to take into account their interests.
