- Lavrov joked about the possible reasons for the decision to take away land from the Russian Federation in Copenhagen
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov joked that Denmark's threats to take away land from the Russian embassy in Copenhagen may be related to the resettlement of Greenlanders. This happened during a press conference on January 20 on the results of Russian diplomacy in 2025.
"I think it has something to do with Greenland. Maybe they want to move people from there somewhere and there is not enough territory, premises," the minister noted ironically.
He also called the Copenhagen Municipality's decision "diplomatic rudeness" and assured that the Kremlin would respond to it.
Earlier in the day, Lavrov said that there are currently no prerequisites for concluding mutual assistance agreements between the Russian Federation, Greenland and Iceland. He also recalled that Greenland is not a natural part of Denmark, but became part of the kingdom as a result of the colonial conquest. At the same time, the minister clarified that the current status of the island and the attitude of local residents to the current state of affairs are a separate issue.
