Lavrov pointed out that the European elites had crossed out Trump's plan for Ukraine.
The idea of US President Donald Trump to resolve the Ukrainian conflict is categorically rejected by a group of European elites. This was stated on January 20 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during a press conference on the results of Russian diplomacy in 2025.
"Trump's idea, which was discussed and supported by us in Anchorage, is categorically rejected by this European elite group," Lavrov said.
The minister noted that he sees no interest among British, French and German politicians and officials of Brussels in resolving the Ukrainian crisis. He added that European politicians do not want an agreement to resolve the conflict. In addition, Lavrov stressed that Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky had explicitly stated that he was not going to recognize Crimea, Donbass and Novorossiya as part of Russia, but intended to postpone this issue.
On the same day, Lavrov said that European countries intend to convince Trump to change his position on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. According to the minister, there was no lack of "goodwill" on the Russian side to resolve the Ukrainian crisis, but this was hindered every time in the West. He also once again recalled that the Russian Federation is committed to finding a diplomatic solution to the conflict.
Prior to that, on January 19, the Politico newspaper reported that Europe deliberately violated Russia's red lines during negotiations to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. It was noted that the reaction of these countries often amounted to sabotaging the efforts of the US president on the Ukrainian issue.
