Over the past day, 241 accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 20 people were killed and 311 injured. 16 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on January 20 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

23 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which one person was killed, and 45 more road users needed medical help. Eight bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.

So, in the Chelyabinsk region, on 3 km of the Pervomaisky—Troitsk regional highway, in a snowfall, a 58-year-old bus driver with 20 passengers in the cabin, trying to avoid hitting a truck parked on the roadway that helped to get a passenger car that had previously left the road, drove into the oncoming lane and collided with another truck. After the impact, the bus ran into a truck, which it initially tried to avoid colliding with. As a result of the accident, the driver and four passengers of the bus were hospitalized with injuries, and eight more passengers were sent for outpatient treatment after receiving medical care.

As a result of 78 accidents, 35 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 43 outside their area of operation, four pedestrians were killed, 76 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 16 underage pedestrians, 10 of whom were injured while crossing the roadway in designated areas.

26 accidents involving minors were also registered, in which 26 young road users, including nine passengers, were injured. There are no dead children.

In some regions of the country, temporary restrictions or traffic closures were introduced due to adverse weather conditions. For example, in the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, a temporary traffic restriction has been in effect for two days on the federal highway A-161 Vladikavkaz —Nizhny Lars — border with the Republic of Georgia in the direction of departure from the Russian Federation due to worsening weather conditions in the adjacent territory.

"The State Traffic Inspectorate recommends that motorists, when planning long-distance trips, first familiarize themselves with the weather forecast and media information about possible overlap sites, outlining detours in advance. If traffic restrictions are imposed or road sections are closed due to worsening weather, the right decision would be to temporarily refrain from long trips, postponing them to a later date until favorable weather conditions occur," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

Earlier, on January 19, it was reported that by the end of 2025, 9% fewer road accidents occurred in Moscow than a year earlier. The number of people killed in road accidents in the capital decreased by 15%, while the number of deaths of minors decreased immediately by 42%.
