After the planned introduction of the digital ruble, cash will operate on a par with non-cash, despite the changing demand for them. Sofia Glavina, an associate professor at the Faculty of Economics of the RUDN University, told the Prime news agency on January 20.

"The digital ruble can reduce the use of cash by 5-10% in the long term (by 2030), but this will not reduce the total amount," Glavina said.

It clarifies that despite the decrease in demand for cash in areas where convenience, speed and transparency of transactions are a priority, they will remain in high demand in rural areas. In addition, they will retain cultural and social functions, where the transfer of money has its own symbols.
