Increased fines for transporting children without car seats came into force in Russia on January 9, primarily affecting taxi drivers and carriers. This was announced on January 20 by Pavel Fedyaev, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Transport and Transport Infrastructure Development.

"The fine for transporting a child without a car seat has increased significantly since January 9: 5,000 rubles for ordinary drivers, 50,000 rubles for officials and 200,000 rubles for legal entities," the deputy told RIA Novosti.

According to him, the initiative is more aimed at unscrupulous taxi drivers who take orders for transporting children without ensuring their safety.

Fedyaev stressed that tougher sanctions should encourage carriers to use serviceable and certified restraining devices.

"Saving money is criminal when it comes to the lives of our children," the parliamentarian added, noting that a child safety seat is as mandatory a safety element as a belt.

Earlier, on January 16, it was reported that in 2025 bailiffs and inspectors of the MADI arrested 28 cars for parking violations and accumulated fines of more than 6 million rubles. Five owners paid off the debt on the spot and avoided evacuation, the rest will be able to return the cars only after paying the debts. In case of non-repayment, cars may be lost through an auction. The Department of Transport reminded drivers to leave their cars only in authorized places and pay their fines on time.
