An S4-level radiation storm is observed in the vicinity of the Earth for the first time in two solar cycles. This was reported on January 19 at the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Institute of Space Research (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

"The solar proton flux has exceeded 10,000 units! For the first time in the last two solar cycles, an S4—level radiation storm is occurring in the vicinity of the Earth!" the Telegram channel says.
