Scientists have reported the highest level of solar protons since October 2003
Solar protons have reached their maximum level since 2003 and have reached a flux density of 7,000 units. This was announced on January 19 at the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the IKI RAS.
"The density of the proton flux with energies above 10 MeV, used as a standard global index, has reached the level of 7 thousand pfu units (1 proton/(cm2 with cp)), which is the maximum value since 2003," the laboratory wrote in its Telegram channel.
In addition, incoming photos from the coronograph are strewn with particles. It is specified that the last time higher values were recorded was on October 29, 2003, during the strongest magnetic storm in the 21st century.
On the same day, the IKI RAS reported that the most powerful proton event of the 25th solar cycle occurs on the Sun. It was clarified that these values have become the highest in the last 10 years, but scientists are still unable to determine the cause of their occurrence. The laboratory added that an increase in the plasma release rate is possible in the near future.
