The psychologist talked about the technique of controlling emotions
Psychologist, psychotherapist Olga Avanesyan told how to control emotions.
In an interview with Radio 1 on Monday, January 19, the expert explained that the "catch a thought before an emotion" technique helps to learn how to control yourself. According to her, although actions often seem spontaneous, they are actually preceded by a rapid chain of thoughts, emotions and reactions.
Avanesyan explained that everything starts with a so-called trigger thought, followed by an instantaneous emotion—resentment, anxiety, or anger—followed by automatic action. At the same time, as the expert noted, people usually notice only the emotion and reaction, losing sight of the original thought.
The expert stressed that it is impossible to forbid yourself to feel, but you can learn to intercept a thought that triggers an emotion. To do this, she advises stopping after a strong experience and asking yourself: "What did I just think about?", in order to realize this connection and take control of the situation, reports 360.ru .

Instead of large-scale annual plans, which can be intimidating, she suggested making a list of small, pleasant and easily achievable tasks for the coming week.
In November last year, psychiatrist Andrei Shmilovich stated that problems with formulating one's own emotions and explaining their causes may indicate the development of depression or anxiety disorder. According to him, affective disorders remain the most common mental disorders. Anxiety and low mood may be a normal reaction to difficulties, but they become pathological when they disrupt cognitive and social functioning and are accompanied by persistent somatic symptoms, writes NSN.
