CNN reported on the massive purchase of survival equipment by Greenlanders
Residents of Greenland began to massively purchase goods for survival amid fears of possible military action on the island due to the claims of the United States. This was reported on January 18 by CNN with reference to the owners of shops in the capital of the autonomous region, the city of Nuuk.
"Shopkeepers in the capital of Greenland, Nuuk, said <...> that sales of survival equipment have increased significantly recently amid local residents' concern about military operations or other types of instability," the article says.
According to the interlocutors of the publication, among the most in—demand goods are camping stoves, dried products with a long shelf life, as well as freeze-dried dishes.
On the same day, Dutch Foreign Minister David van Wil announced that Amsterdam was ready to "show its teeth" to US President Donald Trump in the event of an attack on Greenland. He also noted that the application of trade duties against the European Union (EU) countries that supported Denmark's sovereignty over Greenland is an inappropriate and unnecessary step.
On January 19, TV2 announced the deployment of Danish troops to Greenland. It is specified that the chief of the Army Staff Peter Boysen is also arriving in the group. In addition, Greenland's Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen said in a Facebook post (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) that Greenland would not allow pressure to be exerted on itself.
