- The Ministry of Health called the transplantation of organs from genetically modified animals to humans dangerous.
Organ transplantation of genetically modified animals to humans is currently not safe. This was announced on January 19 by Sergey Gauthier, chief freelance transplant specialist at the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.
"Nevertheless, at this stage, the genetic modification of animals would not provide full control over the rejection reaction [of the transplanted organ by the human body], that is, they have not reached this stage yet," Gauthier said.
He also admitted that such an option could be considered as an intermediate "bridge" to transplantation. Gauthier emphasized an important moral and ethical aspect, pointing out that a person should not be a model for testing a technique, as happened in the United States, where two pig heart transplants resulted in the death of patients.
On November 17, 2025, scientist He Jiankui, who was able to edit the human genome for the first time, announced that the creation of genetically modified children could soon be legalized in the United States under the influence of profit-seeking companies. He warned that Silicon Valley companies are funding experiments to create children who are genetically assigned a high IQ score.
