Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi misses having a relationship of trust with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov. This was announced on January 19 by the Japanese deputy from the ruling Liberal Democratic Party Muneo Suzuki.

"Foreign Minister Motagi previously maintained good trusting relations with Foreign Minister Lavrov. [He] always misses it, and I conveyed this to Deputy Foreign Minister Rudenko," Suzuki told TASS.

He also said that he had conveyed to Moscow the opinion of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on relations between Russia and the island state. The MP noted that the head of government believes that Tokyo will play its role after achieving peace in Ukraine.

Japanese media reported on January 17 that Suzuki had conveyed Takaichi's message to Russian President Vladimir Putin. During the trip, the Japanese parliamentarian also held meetings with Russian Deputy Foreign Ministers Andrei Rudenko and Mikhail Galuzin.
