In Germany, they pointed out that the EU does not have the right to re-educate people through sanctions

The European Union (EU) cannot "re-educate" people by imposing new sanctions. This was announced on January 18 by the former head of German counterintelligence, Hans-Georg Maassen.

"The European Commission's claim that sanctions are not punishment, but rather encouragement of other behavior, is also erroneous. <...> Our legal system does not allow the state to "re—educate" people acting within the law with sanctions," he said in an interview with the YouTube channel Neutrality Studies Deutsch.

According to him, the EU's personal sanctions are extremely serious "human rights violations."

"Last July, I met a good friend who was sanctioned. <...> He can't work, he can't own any assets, he doesn't even have a credit card. At first I couldn't believe it. The only reason was his friendly relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, because he worked for Gazprom," said the former head of German counterintelligence.

He also stressed that the EU countries are going "even further and attacking their own citizens."

"Then they invent — as in the case of former Swiss intelligence officer Jacques Bo - a connection with Putin, they invent that the person is spreading pro—Russian propaganda," Maassen concluded.

The 20th package of restrictions is being actively discussed in Brussels, and it is expected to be adopted by February 24.

Earlier, on January 13, the high representative of the Association for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaya Kallas, said that the European Union (EU) was panicking to finish work on the 20th package of sanctions against Russia in February.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said on January 4 that EU representatives, pursuing their anti-Russian policy, are ready to go "to the edge of the abyss." According to him, all these are not decisions made by the "fallen from the Moon", but rather very specific actions, which demonstrates the prevailing intolerance towards the Russian Federation in the West.
