Kindergartens in Russia must be open at least until 20:00, as the current schedule does not meet the needs of working parents. This was announced on January 19 by Natalia Moskvitina, founder and CEO of the Women for Life Foundation, a member of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation.

"The garden should be open until (20:00 - Ed.) absolutely. It doesn't have to be local educators, but at least nannies, junior staff should ensure the safety of the child and his ability to stay out of the house," she said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to her, the closure of kindergartens in the early evening hours does not take into account the actual work schedule of parents. Even at the end of the working day around 19:00, many people need extra time on the road, which makes it difficult to pick up their child on time.

Moskvitina noted that the problem is particularly aggravated by the fact that representatives of the older generation — grandparents — also continue to work and are not always able to help with child care. As a result, there is a time interval when the child is left unattended, and the children's institution is already closed.

The representative of the Civic Chamber stressed that the discrepancy between the working hours of kindergartens and parents has an impact on the demographic situation. According to her, families with one child and mortgage obligations are often forced to prioritize work and household issues, which is why they postpone or do not consider the birth of a second child at all.
