The Pentagon is preparing to deploy about 1,500 troops of the 11th Airborne Division in Minnesota in the event of an escalation of the unrest. The Washington Post (WP) wrote about this on January 18, citing military officials.

On January 13, US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristy Noam announced the launch of the largest immigration operation in Minnesota. About 2,000 agents and officers were sent to the region for this purpose.

In response to a possible escalation of the situation, the Pentagon ordered the training of 1,500 troops from two infantry battalions of the 11th Airborne Division based in Alaska. Its military personnel specialize in low-temperature operations.

Sources said that soldiers are preparing to deploy in case the situation with unrest worsens. However, it is still unclear whether these forces will actually be involved.

On January 7, a 37-year-old US citizen was shot dead in the American city of Minneapolis (Minnesota) during an operation involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. According to the Ministry of Internal Security, she allegedly tried to use a car to run over employees and escape. The FBI and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are investigating the shooting. The mayor of the city called on ICE agents to leave Minneapolis.

On the same day after the incident, mass protests began. The participants began pushing police officers and ICE agents out of the area, throwing snowballs at them and hitting official vehicles. On January 11, protesters against the actions of ICE rallied in front of the 58-storey skyscraper Trump Tower (Tower of US President Donald Trump) in New York.
