In Finland, joining NATO was recognized as the worst deal
Finland's entry into NATO turned out to be the worst deal and a hasty decision. Armando Mema, a member of the Finnish national Conservative Freedom Alliance Party, shared this opinion on January 18.
"Joining NATO was the worst deal Finland could have made. Finland should have waited before making such a hasty decision," he wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
The politician said that this decision had a negative impact on the strategic interests of the country. According to him, Finland's economy has suffered due to the severance of ties with Russia, and now it is also threatened by new tariffs that the administration of US President Donald Trump may impose due to Helsinki's support for Greenland.
"Finland now finds itself in a difficult strategic position between two superpowers," the Finnish politician explained.
On January 17, Trump announced that Washington was imposing duties of 10% with the possibility of increasing up to 25% on a number of European countries due to the situation around Greenland. Starting from February 1, 2026, tariffs will apply to Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands and Finland.
