The fire occurred under the roof of a five-story apartment building in the center of Moscow. This was reported to Izvestia on January 18 in the press service of the main metropolitan directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation.

"The capital's firefighters are extinguishing a fire in an apartment building in the center of Moscow. <...> A fire was reported at 5 Tatarskaya Street, building 1," the department said.

In the village of Orlovo in the Moscow region on January 17, a fire broke out in an outbuilding, resulting in the death of a 12-year-old girl. The girl's father suffered burns to his hands and was treated on the spot. The second child was not injured.

According to preliminary data, the cause of the fire, upon which a criminal case was opened in accordance with Part 1 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Causing death by negligence"), could be the emergency operation of electrical appliances. Specialists will conduct forensic medical and fire-technical examinations.
