Priest Portnov told about the expiration date of holy water
Holy water can spoil, contrary to popular belief about its eternal preservation. This was announced on January 18 by Priest Maxim Portnov, rector of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in the village of Voskresenka in the Samara region.
"It is often considered the main property of holy water that, unlike ordinary water, it does not spoil. In fact, this is absolutely not the case. From an Orthodox point of view, holy water spoils if people treat it with disrespect," he explained in an interview with aif.ru .
Epiphany belongs to the 12 main Christian holidays. This event is considered the Epiphany — the appearance of the Trinity and evidence of the beginning of the Savior's public ministry. In the Orthodox calendar, the holiday belongs to the number of the twelve and has a fixed date — it is celebrated annually on January 19 in a new style. Many believers believe that holy water collected on a holiday has special properties and does not deteriorate over the years.
The participants of the Christmas service at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior on January 7 told about their impressions and the significance of the holiday for believers. The parishioners noted the special atmosphere of the service and the high level of organization. Christmas services on the night of the holiday were held in more than 500 churches in Moscow, as well as throughout Russia.
