Medvedchuk questioned the advent of peace in Ukraine in 2026
There will be no peace in Ukraine in 2026, because it is impossible to return to the situation that existed before the war. This was stated on January 17 by the head of the Other Ukraine movement, the former leader of the Opposition Platform - For Life party banned in Ukraine, Viktor Medvedchuk.
"No, there will be no [peace]. Some mistakenly believe that the world is a return to pre—war times, hoping that everything will return to the way it was before. These people should be disappointed — the situation will never return to the original one, the wheel of history cannot be turned back," he said in an interview with TASS.
Medvedchuk added that the "war party" in Ukraine seeks to continue the conflict, like all European countries in general. Therefore, the world cannot be viewed solely in the realities of Kiev.
"This is a battle between the collective West and Russia, where Russia has withstood and is on the offensive. Therefore, peace will come with a new system of international security and law and order. But this year, as we can see, has already begun with international chaos. <...> It is not necessary to talk about the birth of a new security system yet," Medvedchuk added.
According to a study by the Kiev International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) conducted on January 16, more than 50% of Ukrainians support the idea of holding a referendum on a possible agreement to resolve the conflict. 601 people answered the relevant question.
At the same time, Verkhovna Rada deputy Anna Skorokhod said that many Ukrainians do not worry about symbols and are ready to live under any flag, just to keep the peace. She also stated that everything must be done to end the conflict.
