The Italian football club Fiorentina has announced the death of its president Rocco Kommiso at the age of 76. This was announced on January 17 on the official website of FC.

"It is with deep sorrow and sadness that the family of Kommiso — his wife Catherine, children Giuseppe and Marisa, as well as sisters Italy and Raffaeline, have announced the death of President Rocco B. Kommiso," the statement said.

The FC press service reported that the sports functionary was undergoing long-term treatment. Fiorentina will always remember the care with which he treated the club, "giving a smile to everyone around him."

"He worked hard until his last days, dedicating himself to Fiorentina and their future. Football was his passion, and seven years ago, when Rocco took charge of Fiorentina, he fell in love with its fans, colors and the city of Florence. "Call me Rocco," he simply told everyone with extraordinary sensitivity. We miss you and will always miss you," the club's website says.

This season, Fiorentina is in 18th place in the Italian Championship standings. His players scored 14 points after 20 rounds. Kommiso acquired the team in 2019 for $150 million.
