A captured Ukrainian Armed Forces militant reported incessant cases of desertion.
Anatoly Sorokin, a captured militant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), a former prisoner, reported on January 17 about continuous cases of desertion from their unit.
According to him, he was recruited by representatives of the 425th regiment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine "Skala" and signed a contract with the Ukrainian army right in the colony. He noted that during this procedure, the representatives of the unit hurried the prisoners very much, literally handing them papers to sign.
However, the signatories of the contracts, when they were brought to the location, began to escape one by one, even despite the rows of barbed wire protecting their location.
"Everyone is ticking (running away. 99% went [to sign a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine] not to fight, but to go home, to somehow "fight back", someone to surrender on purpose. These are prisoners. That's what they do everything for," says Sorokin.
The prisoner said that in the city of Krasnoarmeysk, Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), the commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine radioed his unit to move through open terrain, even though the territory was in the zone of Russian drones. At the same time, a Ukrainian drone dropped ammunition on the militant, who did not obey the order.
Sorokin added that he was wounded and hid in the basement for two months. As a result, he surrendered to Russian soldiers.
"I'm shouting, guys, I give up, don't shoot, I'm wounded. <...> Russia will win, anyway!" the prisoner confidently declared.
On January 10, Alexander Shakura, a prisoner of war of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said that he was fraudulently sent to the front line, hiding the real conditions of service. Shakura shared that he had repeatedly asked about his service life and wondered when he would be sent home. To the prisoner's numerous questions, the command replied that "no one will ever change him from here."
