- The opposition in the Czech Republic complained about the grimaces of Foreign Minister Matsinka
At the end of the first session of the new parliament on January 16, opposition members of the Czech Republic complained about the behavior of Foreign Minister Petr Matsinka, who grimaced and rolled his eyes during the speeches of parliamentarians, as if underestimating the importance of the topics discussed, the Idnes news portal reported on January 17.
"Opposition MPs reported that the Foreign Minister rolled his eyes, made various grimaces, and smiled sarcastically during their speeches, which unnerved the speakers and prevented them from focusing on the topic of the debate," the report says.
In particular, Barbora Pipaschova, a deputy from the Czech Pirate Party, interrupted her speech to call Macinka to order. And the former head of the Ministry of Health and a deputy from the TOR 09 party, Vlastimil Valek, stated about the low political culture of the foreign minister, noting that he was not behaving like a "constitutional official", but the head of some kind of fan club.
When the media asked Matsinka to explain his behavior, he told reporters that he reacted in this way only to the speeches of some specific speakers, and did not pay attention to the entire audience. At the same time, the minister added that he had received many responses from the country's citizens, who noted that it was only thanks to him that they were able to withstand the broadcast of a three-day discussion on trust in the government.
In January 2023, it was reported that a member of the Czech Parliament, Hubert Lang, switched to Morse code during a discussion on no confidence in the cabinet. As Lange, who represents the Czech opposition, explained, he decided to send a "clear signal" in Morse code to the then coalition government of Petr Fiala, so that he would resign.
