The movement of ships through the Dardanelles Strait in Turkey is carried out in one direction due to the standing at the bulk carrier. This was announced on January 16 by the General Directorate of the country's Coast Guard.

"The transit of vessels from the south to the north has been suspended since 15.45 Moscow time," the ministry told RIA Novosti.

The local news portal Çanakkale Kalem adds that the reason for the suspension of traffic was a 274-meter-long cargo ship flying the flag of Mozambique, whose generator failed. According to the portal, the calls of more than 300 container ships and other vessels that were supposed to pass through the strait from the north were canceled.

Turkish Transport Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu said on the NTV channel on December 23 that Ankara plans to expand its navigation safety control system to the Black Sea. According to him, the Turkish authorities are making serious efforts in the field of navigation safety. He added that the authorities plan to urgently implement this system in the Eastern Mediterranean to better control the situation in the area from Mersin to Cyprus.
