- Rodriguez promised to proudly arrive in Washington with the flag of Venezuela unfurled.
On January 15, the acting President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, promised, if she happens to visit Washington, to do it as befits a Venezuelan woman — with her head held high and the tricolor of her state unfurled.
"I promise you: if ever I happen to go to Washington as acting president <...>, I will do it with a tricolor flag, I will do it with the "Glory of the Brave People" (the anthem of Venezuela. — Ed.), sounding in my heart. <...> It will be standing, as befits a Venezuelan or a Venezuelan woman, standing with dignity," she said.
Speaking at the meeting of the National Assembly, Rodriguez, on Teacher's Day, which has been celebrated annually on January 15 in her republic since 1932, stressed that she fulfills her duties as a "student." She called on her people to unite and move forward.
Rodriguez, who took the oath of office the day after the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Celia Flores by American troops, said on January 4 that her country was governed by the government and the people. On January 12, she responded accordingly to a statement by US President Donald Trump, who declared himself the acting leader of Venezuela.
Two days later, the head of the White House allowed the possibility of a visit by the acting president of Venezuela to the United States. On the same day, it became known that the politicians discussed "unresolved issues" during a telephone conversation.
