US President Donald Trump is stalling for time while the US Armed Forces are being deployed to the Middle East. This was reported on January 15 by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing officials from the United States and the Middle East.

"One of the Qatari officials stated that it may take the United States from five to seven days to prepare a full—fledged offensive," the publication says.

According to the WSJ, US officials told Trump that a large-scale strike on Iran was unlikely to lead to the fall of the government and could escalate the conflict. It is clarified that the American leader has not yet made a final decision, but has asked for military funds in case of a major attack.

On the same day, The New York Times reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asked Trump during a telephone conversation on January 14 to postpone the attack on Iran.

NBC reported on January 15 that the head of the White House is considering the possibility of launching a short-term and decisive military strike against Iran without escalating the conflict into a protracted one.

White House press Secretary Caroline Leavitt said on January 15 that Trump and his team are closely monitoring the situation in Iran. All possible options remain under consideration. In addition, the White House did not disclose whether Netanyahu really asked to postpone the attack on Iran, but confirmed the fact of their conversation with the American leader.

Russia's representative to the United Nations (UN) Vasily Nebenzia said on January 15 that the United States continues to escalate tension and foment hysteria around Iran. According to him, today's meeting, convened at the initiative of the United States, is another attempt to justify interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign state.

Fox News reported on January 15 that the United States was deploying forces to the Middle East amid Trump's consideration of the possibility of a strike on Iran. Later, the TV channel, citing the military, added that at least one American aircraft carrier was heading to the Middle East. It is specified that these measures are aimed at providing the US president with operational military capabilities in the event of an appropriate decision.
