Tusk predicted disaster for NATO in case of US military intervention in Greenland

A US military intervention in Greenland could be a disaster for NATO countries. This was announced on January 15 by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

"From our point of view, it would be a disaster. A conflict or an attempt to seize the territory of a NATO member country by another NATO member country would be the end of the world, the world that we know and which has guaranteed our security and a world order based on NATO solidarity for decades," the Onet portal quotes him as saying.

Tusk also stressed that now he does not consider it appropriate to analyze in detail the political and military consequences of such a development. At the same time, he noted that such a scenario cannot be ruled out, given the recent actions and policy style of US President Donald Trump, which, according to him, is characterized by unpredictability.

In addition, the Polish Prime Minister pointed out that Europe cannot have a ready-made plan for such a situation, but European countries should think in advance about building a security system together with those partners who remain committed to the Western project and its values.

On January 11, former French President Francois Hollande expressed the opinion that US military action against Greenland would be the end of NATO. He added that the United States "should not do anything about Greenland, especially by military means." At the same time, the press service of Republican Congressman from the United States Randy Fine reported that a bill had been introduced "on the annexation and statehood of Greenland." It was clarified that the law on the annexation and status of Greenland as a state gives Trump the authority to take all necessary actions to annex or acquire Greenland as an American territory.
