On the night of January 15, the second strong M-class flare occurred in the Sun in 2026. This is reported in the Telegram channel of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the Institute of Space Research (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

"Active region No. 4341, which was marked in the first two weeks of the year by two very strong explosions on the far side of the Sun, has reached the side visible from Earth and will become the main source of news about the Sun in the coming days," the report says.

The radiation peak occurred at 23:33 Moscow time, with a measured level of M1.62. It is noted that the first M-flash this year occurred there three days ago.

According to the laboratory, long pauses usually occur in this active region of the Sun, after which energy accumulates, which is then released in the form of flashes.

In addition, the laboratory indicated that, despite the definition of the outbreak as medium in strength, its impact on the Earth was not felt. The following events are expected to occur within 1-2 days, although forecasts based on numbers have no scientific basis.

On January 8, the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the IKI RAS reported that an explosion had been recorded on the Sun. It was noted that his place would be visible only in a week. However, the cause of the explosion has not been established.
