Since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, the European Union has already allocated €193.3 billion to support Kiev and intends to spend an additional €90 billion in 2026-2027. This was announced on January 14 in a statement by the European Commission (EC).

"Since the beginning of the conflict, the EU has provided assistance to Kiev in the amount of €193.3 billion, including €3.7 billion in proceeds from the reinvestment of frozen Russian assets. This is more than any other country," EC President Ursula von der Leyen said at a press conference in Brussels.

According to her, these funds of €90 billion are planned to be raised over two years by placing an emergency pan-European loan on the financial markets, the Newspaper said.Ru». The head of the European Commission stressed that the proposed mechanism would allow EU countries to consolidate resources for further support of Ukraine.

Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said on January 12 that the EU countries "shot themselves in the foot" after the decision to allocate a loan to Ukraine in the amount of € 90 billion. According to him, at the moment the EU has "a billion problems", which include existential crises, as well as the lack of ability to build its security without the United States.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on December 25 that the leadership of the European Union, which decided to send €90 billion to support Kiev, instead of investing in the development of Ukraine, is solely interested in continuing the conflict.
