Nutritionist dispelled myths about the need for breakfast
The flood of contradictory nutrition advice on the internet, especially regarding breakfast, is confusing to many people. As Yuri Brabechan, a nutritionist at the Lapino Fitness Country Club, told Izvestia on January 15, diametrically opposed recommendations can be found on social networks: from heavy, fatty breakfasts to a complete rejection of morning meals.
According to him, both points of view represent extreme interpretations of normal physiology, which are presented as a universal norm, although there is no such thing.
"Waking up feeling hungry is natural, as the body has not received food for 8-10 hours and blood sugar levels have decreased. By itself, morning hunger is not a sign of liver or insulin problems. In this case, a light balanced breakfast that includes proteins, carbohydrates and a small amount of fat works well, which provides energy and helps to avoid overeating in the evening," the specialist explained.
Lack of appetite in the morning is also a normal option for some people whose digestive system is activated more slowly. Postponing breakfast to a later time in such a situation does not have negative consequences. Problems begin when there is hunger, but a person consciously ignores it, following popular ideas. This often leads to breakdowns and excessive food intake in the afternoon.
A fatty breakfast, according to the nutritionist, cannot be considered an unambiguously correct or erroneous decision, since the body's reaction is individual. It is worth evaluating not the conformity of a fashionable theory, but the actual state of health: breakfast should provide energy, not cause drowsiness after eating and not provoke evening overeating.
"You need to listen to your own body's signals: if you want to eat in the morning, your body needs food, and if you don't, you don't need to force yourself. The key criterion is how a person really feels during the day," concluded Brabechan.
On December 26, DDX Fitness personal trainer and nutritionist Alyona Averyanova said that restoring nutrition after the New Year holidays requires not a strict diet, but a systematic approach and a refusal to drastically reduce the caloric intake.
