Sales of Chinese-built cars in Russia decreased by 38% in 2025, with a total of 489,000 such vehicles sold. Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, told about this on January 14 in his Telegram channel.

At the same time, sales of Russian-built cars in 2025 increased by 8%, while the overall car market declined. So, during the year, 701.7 thousand new cars were sold in the Russian Federation, rolled off Russian assembly lines. Their market share has grown to 52.9%. At the same time, 1.33 million new passenger cars were registered in the country last year, a year-on-year decrease of 15.6%.

The Belarusian brand Belgee has significantly strengthened its position in the brand structure. There was also a new Tenet brand, which managed to sell 33.5 thousand cars in 4 months of sales and enter the top 10 brands in terms of sales for the year. The only one in the top 15 brands whose cars are supplied to the Russian Federation through alternative imports was the Toyota brand, whose sales increased by 40% over the year (to 29.1 thousand units).

As the expert noted, the local assembly of the remaining Hyundai and Kia car kits allowed the Russian Solaris brand to sell 2.3 times more cars (34.5 thousand units) than in 2024, and take the eighth place in terms of volume. Among the top 15 brands, sales of Jetour (+4%) and GAC (+6%) also increased by the end of the year.

The analyst also pointed out that the share of crossovers and SUVs in the Russian market has grown to a historic high of 74% by the end of the year.

By the end of 2025, the Russian car market has dropped to 13th place in the world ranking. On January 13, Tselikov clarified that a year earlier the market was 11th, but now it has lost ground to Italy and Mexico. China ranks first in the ranking in terms of new car sales with a score of 23.77 million units (+3.9% year-on-year).

The United States ranks second (16.3 million units; +2.3%), and Japan ranks third (4.57 million units; +3.3%). India rounded out the top five (4.48 million units; +9.7%) and Germany (2.86 million units; +1.4%).
